GCash reported Filipinos seeking jobs through its app feature GJobs have increased to 2.5 million as of 12 March this year.
Through its GJobs, GCash president and chief executive officer Oscar Reyes Jr. said the app displays job listings which the public can apply for, especially those looking for manual or blue-collar jobs.
“Traditionally, if you’re looking for a blue-collar job, you have to travel and go around establishments to inquire. That’s difficult,” Reyes told the media last Thursday.
Aside from the accessibility of GJobs,
Reyes said it provides job opportunities for Filipinos who simply want to start earning an income from an ordinary job or increase their existing salaries.
“We already have JobStreet and LinkedIn but they focus on white-collar jobs,” he said.
Reyes said a growing number of Filipinos are closer to exiting the government’s poor population based on its poverty threshold of P13,500 in monthly salary.
“We intend to alleviate poverty. Many Filipinos are already earning P9,000 to P10,000,” he said.
GJobs is powered by PasaJob which also offers monetary rewards for people who refer job applicants to employers advertised on the app. The minimum reward is P1,000.
Since GJobs was launched in September 2023, Reyes said GCash has been aggressively reaching out to companies
“We also want more listings for work outside Metro Manila. This will help small entrepreneurs who need staffing,” he said.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, employed Filipinos increased to 48.49 million in January from 45.9 million in the same month last year.
Top employers were the agriculture, wholesale and retail trade, and hospitality sectors.
The e-wallet firm also aims to broaden access of customers to its cardless or tap-to-pay feature for use nationwide or overseas.
Tap-to-pay uses near-field communication or NFC technology on the customers’ phones to transfer payments into the merchants’ point-of-sale devices.
