A 23-year-old Slovak national, Michaela Mickova, was found dead in an abandoned chapel in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan, last Wednesday, 12 March, prompting a full-scale investigation from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

According to authorities, Mickova’s body was discovered at around 2:19 p.m. at Zone 3, Sitio Pinaungon, Barangay Balabag, approximately a kilometer from her accommodations. Her friend had reported her missing on 10 March, two days before her body was found.

Police reports indicate that Mickova was found lying on her back, wearing only an upper garment, which was rolled up. Her legs were spread apart, and she had suffered a stab wound to the abdomen. Her shoes and belt bag were still with her, but her wallet was missing.

Mickova arrived in Boracay on 1 March to attend a Filipina friend’s wedding. The authorities received the report about her body at 3:50 p.m., and responders confirmed that the body was already in a state of decomposition.

In an interview, Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, the Regional Public Information Officer of PRO-6, assured that the incident is being treated with the utmost urgency.

“While this is an unfortunate incident, peace and order in Boracay will not be disrupted as we vow to make sure that justice will be served the soonest,” Solis said.

Solis added that PRO-6 leadership, under the direction of Police Brigadier General Jack Wacky, is working closely with the local community in Boracay and the people of Aklan to ensure that the case is resolved swiftly.
