Mamak Malaysian Kitchen, a Halal-certified restaurant, has officially opened its doors in the Philippines, offering an authentic taste of Malaysian cuisine. The launch event, held on 18 February, was officiated by His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines.
As the first Halal-certified restaurant at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Mamak Malaysian Kitchen promises a diverse selection of Malaysian dishes prepared in strict accordance with Halal standards, ensuring an inclusive dining experience for everyone. During his speech, Ambassador Castelino highlighted the universal appeal of Halal food, saying, “Halal is for all.”
Halal food refers to what is allowed under Islamic law, with “halal” translating to “lawful” or “permissible” in Arabic.
In collaboration with the Malaysian Embassy and the Department of Trade and Industry, Mamak Malaysian Kitchen aims to boost Halal-friendly tourism in the Philippines.
Ambassador Castelino emphasized that the restaurant’s presence represents not only the growth of Halal cuisine in the country, but also the strengthening of bilateral ties between the Philippines and Malaysia.
“This is not only about the development of Halal in the Philippines, but also to open more job opportunities and improve the relationship between the private sectors of the Philippines and Malaysia,” he said.
Felix Foo, owner of Mamak Malaysian Kitchen, said the decision to open the first branch at NAIA was a strategic move to attract both tourists and locals to try authentic Malaysian cuisine. “To promote halal faster, we decided to build the first branch in NAIA to encourage tourists and locals to try authentic Halal Malaysian food,” Foo said.
The restaurant’s menu features iconic Malaysian dishes such as Nasi Lemak, a fragrant rice dish served with rich, savory accompaniments; Dried Wanton Mee, Malaysian comfort noodles with a satisfying texture; Roti Canai, a flaky, buttery flatbread perfect for dipping; and Seafood Tom Yum, a spicy, aromatic soup with fresh seafood.
Mamak also serves its signature Mamak-style Malaysian coffee, crafted from high-quality beans roasted to perfection to deliver a bold, aromatic experience reminiscent of Malaysia’s bustling street cafés.
In addition to its main offerings, Mamak Malaysian Kitchen introduces Mamak Kopitiam, an extension of the menu serving traditional Malaysian breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
With its strategic location at NAIA and its commitment to authentic flavors, Mamak Malaysian Kitchen is set to become a culinary bridge between Malaysia and the Philippines while introducing more people to the richness of Halal cuisine.
