A 26-year-old driver and construction worker who took his daughter hostage along C-6 Road, Barangay Sta. Ana, Taytay, Rizal, surrendered to authorities after negotiations.
The one-year-old child was successfully rescued by the local police, barangay officials, and force multipliers.
The incident, which began around 7 PM on Saturday, lasted for more than an hour of negotiations with authorities.
The hostage-taker is now detained at the Taytay Municipal Police Station, while the child victim is safe and in the care of their family. He will face charges of serious illegal detention, alarms and scandal, and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.
Taytay Mayor Allan De Leon expressed gratitude that the situation was resolved without injuries.
"Nagkaroon ng hostage-taking pero well handled naman ng ating PNP. Thankful din tayo na kahit nagkaroon ng abala, walang nasaktan at nakuha yung bata nang safe," De Leon said.
(There was a hostage taking incident but it was well handled by our Philippine National Police. We're also thankful that, in spite of the disturbance, no one was hurt and the child was recovered safely.)
Authorities are now investigating the incident.
The hostage-taking also caused heavy traffic in the area, which extended to the C-6 portion of Taguig City.
