The digital landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and with it, the role of content creators is becoming more crucial in shaping narratives, influencing communities, and driving positive change.
To support the next generation of digital innovators, the US Embassy in the Philippines, in collaboration with Out of The Box Media Literacy Initiative, is inviting young content creators across Southeast Asia to participate in a transformative workshop that blends media literacy, content creation and leadership development.
The “Creators Co-Lab: YSEALI Bootcamp for Digital Creators” is designed to equip emerging digital voices with the skills and knowledge to excel in today’s fast-moving media environment.
This hands-on program, taking place from April to June, is an opportunity for young leaders aged 18 to 35 from Asean member countries and Timor-Leste to refine their digital storytelling skills, promote media literacy, and engage with pressing global issues such as disinformation, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The bootcamp kicks off with virtual sessions on 5 and 6 April, where experts from the fields of media, technology, and academia will share valuable insights on the ever-evolving media landscape.
These sessions will cover crucial topics, including creating engaging online content, building brand identity, mastering audience engagement, and navigating digital analytics.
From 28 May to 1 June, the program will culminate in an immersive in-person workshop in Manila, where participants will have the chance to network with like-minded individuals from across the region, collaborate on innovative projects, and learn from top professionals in media, technology and digital strategy.
This dynamic exchange will focus on developing practical skills in media and information literacy, ensuring participants can use their platforms to promote truth, transparency, and constructive dialogue in a world rife with misinformation.
The bootcamp not only aims to equip participants with technical expertise but also provides a platform for regional collaboration.
By connecting young content creators from diverse backgrounds, the program fosters an environment of innovation where fresh ideas are exchanged, and partnerships are formed.
This spirit of regional cooperation is central to the YSEALI mission, which has been empowering young Southeast Asians since 2013 to become leaders in their communities, tackling issues ranging from environmental sustainability to economic development and good governance.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Creators Co-Lab is the opportunity for participants to work together to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
Through facilitated discussions and group activities, they will dive deep into issues such as disinformation, artificial intelligence, and the ethics of digital content creation — equipping themselves with the tools to become responsible, ethical digital citizens.
Beyond the knowledge gained during the bootcamp, participants will also be able to access post-workshop opportunities to elevate their careers. After the bootcamp, they will be eligible to apply for grants of P224,000 ($4,000) to help fund innovative digital content projects.
Additionally, mentoring support will be provided to ensure that participants have the guidance and resources needed to bring their ideas to life.
Upon completion, participants will join the esteemed US international exchange alumni network, gaining access to an exclusive world of further networking opportunities, grants and collaborations.
This network will open doors to new projects, partnerships and resources that will enable them to continue their work in creating meaningful, impactful digital content.
Young content creators who are passionate about using their platforms for positive change are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, applicants must be aged between 18 and 35, hold citizenship in an Asean member country or Timor-Leste, and have a minimum of 1,000 followers on any social media platform.
Additionally, applicants should have been actively creating content for at least the past three months.
Applications are open until 31 January, and can be submitted via this link: https://bit.ly/creatorsco-lab.
