Cebu Pacific’s (CEB) most recent tourism promotion campaign encourages everyone to learn more about the cultural heritage of the country.

The traditional weaving of several local communities is modeled around the QR Flight Codes.

By highlighting the craftsmanship and cultural heritage of Filipino weaving communities, the QR Flight Codes, created in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology — Philippine Textile Research Institute, highlight CEB’s dedication to boosting domestic travel.

Celebrating cultural heritage

“Cebu Pacific takes pride in celebrating the rich tapestry of our country’s cultural heritage,” said CEB chief marketing and customer experience officer Candice Iyog.

“We use our business as a platform for inclusive and sustainable growth, showcasing the artistry of our local weaving communities and making sure their timeless traditions are preserved and their stories appreciated by all Filipinos,” she added.

Five distinct weaving styles

The QR Flight Codes showcase five distinct weaving styles from across the country: The elaborate and nature-inspired designs of Binakol from Ilocos Norte, the exquisitely colored stripes of Ramit from Occidental Mindoro, the vivid colors and recognizable plaid pattern of Hablon from Iloilo, the bold and colorful checkered patterns of Antique’s Patadyong and the striking geometric patterns and vibrant colors of Yakan from Zamboanga.

By scanning these QR flight codes, which are prominently displayed on billboards along key highways and airports nationwide as well as in several periodicals, travelers will be able to find out more about these traditional weaves and the attractions in the places where they are made.

In order to maintain the history and significance of these textiles when creating the QR Flight Codes, CEB worked with regional weaving communities around the country.

Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) supports the Paoay Weavers of Ilocos Norte, the Awati Ti Kape Community Development Program supports the Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro, the Patnongon Multipurpose Cooperative and Bagtason Loom Weavers Association of Antique, the Baraclayan Weavers Association of Iloilo and MMSU supports the Yakan by Oriental Weaves of Zamboanga.

“Every weave is a community’s cultural fingerprint with a story to tell, just as every destination has a unique offering and experience. We encourage every Juan to scan the QR Flight Codes to explore more of the Philippines and learn about our rich culture and heritage,” Iyog added.

Special seat sale

Until 15 January 2025, CEB is offering a special seat sale that will allow travelers to book flights to all domestic destinations for as low as P199 for a one-way base fare, exclusive of fees and surcharges, in an effort to encourage tourists to learn more about these weaves while visiting the Philippines.

The travel period for this seat sale runs from 4 January to 30 June 2025.

Currently, CEB operates in 35 domestic and 27 international destinations spread across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
