The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is urging private sponsors to lend support to the national athletes.
PSC chairperson Richard “Dickie” Bachmann said he hopes his connections with corporate entities such as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and Alaska Milk president and chief executive officer Wilfred Steven Uytengsu would encourage more private sponsors to chip in and support the national sports associations (NSA) and the national athletes.
“Since I started with corporate and I’ve been with Alaska, I have a good relationship with all these corporations and with the help of Mr. Uytengsu and the MVP group, and the PBA,” Bachmann said.
“So they helped me a lot and I was able to bring them all over to PSC that they can actually help the athletes and our NSAs.”
The Philippines will be hosting sporting events in 2025, particularly the Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in July and the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in November.
The Filipino athletes are also slated to compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
Despite the incoming influx of P 1 billion for 2025., Bachmann said it will take the collaboration of both the PSC and the sponsors to make this year a fruitful one in sports.
“Again, the PSC cannot do it alone. The government cannot do it alone. We need the help of everyone to actually support our athletes and our sports,” Bachmann said.
