A rescued dog died after having seizures due to firecrackers, a local animal shelter said.
In a Facebook post, Furvent Animal Rescue and Advocacy said one of their rescued dogs named “Kimchi” died on Sunday, 29 December, due of shock due to sound of the prohibited boga or a PVC cannon.
“Kagabi, habang nasa loob ng bahay nila si Kimchi, may nagpaputok ng sunod-sunod kaya natakot sya, nagulat at nagseizure (Last night, while Kimchi was inside their house, someone fired firecrackers one after the other so he was scared, shocked, and had a seizure),” the rescue organization recalled.
“Nadala nila sa vet kahit lalakarin pa kasi bundok banda sakanila sa Alno, La Trinidad pero... [ngayong] morning, [nag-collapse] na sya and she did not make it (She was brought to the veterinarian, they walker all the way from Alno, La Trinidad but this morning, she collapsed and did not make it),” it added.
The rescue organization said “Kimchi” survived the fatal parvovirus four years ago and did not have any health issues since then after completed her canine vaccines.
“It's so painful to lose her dahil sa mga ibang tao na walang konsiderasyon at iniisip lang ang kasiyahan nila (because of other people who have no consideration and only thinking of their pleasure),” the rescue organization lamented.
“Bakit kaya ang hirap para sa iba na hindi lang puro pang sariling kasiyahan ung isipin? (Why is it so difficult for others to think not only of their own pleasure?).”
According to authorities, one in five dogs go missing after being scared by fireworks.
Meanwhile, as of Monday, the Department of Health logged a total of 163 cases of firecracker-related injuries, a 44 percent jump from last year.
