In the third installment of the response of former ASA Philippines president and CEO Kamrul Tarafder regarding the insinuations contained in a series of rejoinder from the microfinance foundation, Tarafder clarifies the issues on the cybersecurity threats and the purported sale of the organization he once led:
Sure, ASA and Jyosna reported the cyber-attack to PNP Cybercrime when it happened, but that was because Kamrul was still in position. But once the investigation was taken away from Kamrul’s purview, ASA never followed through with the PNP investigation.
Even PNP Cybercrime said they were waiting for ASA but it never went back to follow through. ASA abandoned the PNP investigation and instead opted to conduct its internal investigation which raises questions of partiality and credibility.
When Mr. Kamrul reported death threats to his person and his family, the first reaction of Mr. Dee was to engage the services of a foreign security consultant, not even to engage local enforcement agencies.
It was Mr. Kamrul who reported it to the PNP CIDG, but once he was removed in office, the PNP said they received new instructions from ASA to pull out and discontinue the investigation and Mr. Simon had to insist that the PNP proceed with an independent investigation.
When Mr. Kamrul was made the subject of libelous news reports, the Board’s action was to conduct an internal investigation instead of cooperating with local law enforcement, an investigation that was immediately abandoned if at all it ever began.
Sale of ASA
Suffice it to say, there are sufficient records to substantiate that it was Mr. Dee and Ambassador Dee who initiated and pursued the discussions about the potential sale of ASA, which Kamrul vehemently opposed.
So any mere denial constitutes a weak attempt to defend the matter. The letter sent by Ambassador Cuisia to the staff calling the rumors as fake news was another ploy to undermine Kamrul’s authority at that time, with the Chairman going directly to the staff and bypassing the Board and Kamrul as its President. Such a letter was not even discussed at the Board level prior to its release. (To be continued)
