Cases of flu-like illnesses continue to drop, according to the Department of Health (DoH).

The DoH logged 3,710 cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) from 17 to 30 November, a decline from 7,571 from 3 to 16 November, and 7,971 cases from 20 October to 2 November.

Further decreases in cases have been reported with 3,710 cases from 17 to 30 November.

However, the DoH cautioned in interpreting the most recent numbers, as case counts may still fluctuate due to delayed consultations and reporting.

Nevertheless, the Health department reminded us that preventive measures such as frequently washing hands, and wearing face masks with symptoms like cough or colds will help sustain this trend.

“Maintaining good hygiene practices is essential in limiting the spread of communicable diseases like ILI,” DoH Secretary Ted Herbosa said.

“With the amihan season in full swing and the holidays fast approaching, we strongly encourage the proper use of face masks, observing cough etiquette, and staying at home when experiencing symptoms,” Herbosa added.

The Health chief also urged the public to consult their nearest primary care physician and “inquire about flu vaccination for yourselves and your families.”

As of 30 November, the DoH has recorded a total of 165,992 ILI cases, lower by 17 percent than the 200,525 cases reported during the same period last year.

Despite the overall nationwide decline in ILI cases, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have reported an increase in ILI cases from 3 to 30 November, with up to 1,445 new cases recorded in this period.
