First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., on his visit to the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. Though the visit was for just one day, Mrs. Marcos made a significant impact on their hosts and others.

The First Lady participated in the Global Women’s Forum at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, now in its third iteration.

The Forum highlighted global best practices in supporting women’s empowerment by exploring the influence of policies, legislation, public-private partnerships, entrepreneurship, digital economies and macro trends.

After this, the First Lady met with Dubai Ruler and UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who chairs the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

Mrs. Marcos and Sheikha Latifa exchanged ideas on culture and the arts, something the First Lady is well known for.

“Hearing about her incredible efforts to preserve heritage and uplift women through creativity was so inspiring. It reminded me why celebrating Filipino culture has always been so important — because art and heritage have an amazing way of bringing people together, no matter where we’re from,” the First Lady said.

Following these interactions, Mrs. Marcos witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for Cultural Cooperation between the Philippines’ National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the UAE’s Ministry of Culture in the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

“This partnership highlights our shared dedication to preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage,” Mrs. Marcos said. “I’m truly thankful for the UAE’s support — whether it’s for restoring historic treasures like Intramuros or showcasing Filipino artistry in Abu Dhabi through cultural exchanges. This collaboration ensures that our rich heritage will continue to shine on the global stage.”

She also engaged with His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, the UAE Minister of Culture, and Clean Rivers, a global non-profit tackling the sources of plastic pollution in rivers.

Mrs. Marcos said she enjoyed her conversation with Sheikh Salem, noting their shared passion for preserving cultural heritage and supporting the arts.

“The UAE’s commitment to celebrating heritage and diversity beautifully aligns with our vision for a Bagong Pilipinas, where arts and culture take center stage as key elements of our national identity,” she said.

Before their departure for Manila, the First Couple met with the Filipinos working in the Philippine Embassy in the UAE.

“You represent our country with pride through your hard work and dedication. Mabuhay kayong lahat!” she said.
