President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. brought nearly P89 million in aid to the provinces of Oriental Mindoro and Cavite on Thursday.
In Oriental Mindoro, Marcos distributed P46.14 million worth of financial assistance to farmers, fisherfolk, and families affected by Severe Tropical Storm "Kristine" Super Typhoon "Leon".
Each beneficiary received P10,000 to aid them in recovery and rehabilitation.
“Despite the hardships and challenges caused by typhoons Kristine and Leon, our kababayans have once again shown the spirit of solidarity and unity. However, I know that we still have a lot to do to recover from these [trials],” Marcos said.
“Your strength despite this hardship gives us the determination to continue to serve you wholeheartedly,” he added.
The chief executive noted that the aid distribution the government has conducted is a “sign of the pledge” to help and support each other in times of distress.
He assured the typhoon victims that the government is ready to help.
In the province of Cavite, Marcos received a warm welcome. He was accompanied by several cabinet members including Interior Secretary and former Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla.
A total of P42.33 million in financial assistance was distributed to more than 4,000 beneficiaries, each receiving P10,000 in aid.
Marcos vowed a swift recovery for Cavite and nearby provinces in Region IV-A who also suffered from the recent typhoons.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) were tasked to assist Caviteños in starting anew.
According to government data, over 66,700 families in Cavite were reported affected by the combined effects of “Kristine” and “Leon” as of Tuesday, 12 November. This translates to over 261,000 affected individuals.
Marcos urged Cavite residents to not lose hope in these trying times.
“I encourage you all to remain strong, work together, and not lose hope, because the government is with you every step of your recovery,” he said.
