Quiapo Church reminds devotees that climbing the carriage of Black Nazarene is prohibited

The Quiapo Church has reminded devotees taking part in the 2024 Traslacion that climbing onto the andas or the wheeled carriage bearing the Black Nazarene is not permitted.

Quiapo Church Spokesperson Fr. Hans Magdurulang made this statement as the church released an advisory for the upcoming grand procession on 9 January.

"First, devotees will no longer be allowed to climb the andas to allow people to see the image and in the spirit of our theme: "We wish to see Jesus" as said in John 12:21,"

"Second, people will be allowed to throw towels or handkerchiefs so these can be wiped on the image. Third, devotees can pull on the ropes," Fr. Hans said.

Fr. Hans also reminded the devotees to remain calm and avoid pushing each other during the procession.

"We are reminding all devotees to remain calm and refrain from pushing one so that our celebration is not just seeing the image of our Lord Jesus of Nazareth but to also have a holy, safe, and proper conduct of the Nazareno 2024," Fr. Hans added.

The Traslacion is an annual procession of the 400-year-old image of the Black Nazarene that draws millions of Filipino Catholics from all over the country. It has not been held in the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was announced by the Philippine National Police that about 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure peace and order of the 2024 Black Nazarene feast which includes the traditional translacion and its routes from the Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo.
