The cost of a taxi ride to the airport in Manila is prohibitive if one were to go by the fare matrix of cab driver Arnel Acle. A video posted on Facebook showed Acle charged P11,500 for a trip to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.
To NAIA Terminal 2, Acle charged P12,000, Terminal 3 P13,500, and Terminal 4 P10,300. He charged P10,300 for a ride to any part of Metro Manila and P9,700 to any hotel or bus terminal in the metropolis.
One passenger complained to authorities about the high fares, which led to Acle's driver's license being suspended for 90 days by the Land Transportation Office for alleged overcharging, discourtesy, and franchise violation.
The operator of the taxi that Acle drove was barred by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board from operating at the airport.
In Argentina, protesters face additional costs for marching in the streets to voice their grievances.
Organizers of a massive rally in Buenos Aires last month to protest the unpopular economic policies of new President Javier Milei are being billed 60 million Argentinian pesos by the government.
Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni said more than a dozen social organizations behind the protest would have to pay the amount that was the cost of security for their protest.
According to BBC, these groups will "bear the responsibility of the cost which should not fall on citizens," said Adorni.
