Palace: 26 December a special non-working day

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared 26 December 2023, as a special non-working day, providing Filipinos with an extended weekend during this year's holiday season after Christmas.

Malacañang on Tuesday released Proclamation No. 425, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

"[A] longer weekend wil encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a better society," part of the proclamation read.

Marcos then directed the Department of Labor and Employment to issue the appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.

Christmas Day, which falls on a Monday, is observed as a regular holiday.

Last year, Malacañang updated the roster of regular holidays and special non-working days for 2023, creating opportunities for extended weekends.

Malacañang issued Proclamation 90 on 11 November 2022, modifying Proclamation 42 to specify the regular holidays and special non-working days.
