Hit-and-run suspect in Kalinga cop’s death surrenders

BAGUIO CITY — After five days, the suspect in the hit-and-run incident, where a member of a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of Tabuk City, Kalinga died, finally surrendered to the authorities on the evening of 5 December 2023.

Personnel of the police who investigated the incident were able to identify the suspect as a 47-year-old resident of Barangay Maradullog, Enrile, Cagayan. Members of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office together with Kalinga Vice Governor Jocel Baac went to the house of the suspect in Cagayan for his surrender.

To recall, the victim, Police Staff Sergeant Aldrine Agpad, a SWAT member assigned to the Tabuk City Police went for his regular jogging along the national highway before reporting for duty on 1 December 2023. At 6:00 a.m. of the said date, Agpad was seen sprawled motionlessly on the road, he was rushed to the hospital by responders where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police investigated the incident and they were able to locate the vehicle of the suspect. Said vehicle was seen to be parked and was covered by a tarpaulin at  Sitio Callagdao, Bulanao Centro, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

The suspect was brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical and physical examinations. He was then brought to the Tabuk City Police Station for proper processing.
