The Economist declared ChatGPT as the global word of the year for 2023. According to the global business publication, ChatGPT stands out as a term that "has been on the lips (and minds) of people around the world, whatever their language."

Lane Greene, language columnist at The Economist, emphasized the significance of choosing ChatGPT as the word of the year, stating, "As plenty of brands have become common nouns in their own right for their usefulness and ubiquity, I decided that this name could, and indeed must, be The Economist's word of the year, for no other choice made quite as much sense."

ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI. Launched in November 2022, this free-to-use AI system facilitates engaging conversations, provides insights, and automates tasks.

"It's noteworthy that 'ChatGPT' being The Economist's word of the year likely signifies the increasing significance and influence of conversational AI, highlighting its impact on communication, technology, and potentially broader societal changes," ChatGPT replied when this writer inquired, through the platform itself, about the chatbot's reaction to being named word of the year.
