When American bride-to-be Emmali Osterhoudt bought a wedding dress in September, she was ironically not engaged.
Stumbling on the white gown while shopping for cheap picture frames at a Goodwill thrift store, the 21-year-old nursing student from Alabama found its design and price tag of $25 irresistible. Osterhoudt bought the dress designed by Galia Lahav and originally worth $6,200.
Osterhoudt shared her treasure find on TikTok, and it went viral, drawing five million views.
The beautiful dress will not be for naught, however. Osterhoudt's boyfriend recently proposed to her, and the couple set their wedding date in June 2025. Come wedding day, the $25 gown will adorn the bride.
Meanwhile, other couples will ring their wedding bells today. At least 1,000 partners are expected to get married in a jiffy at Las Vegas City's famous Little White Chapel.
A pop-up marriage license bureau has been set up at the Harry Reid International Airport, and on 26 December, it started serving arriving couples who want to get married on New Year's Eve, Fox News reported.
Among the first marriage certificate applicants were the soon-to-be Hayley couple, who walked into the temporary office after hearing about it when they got off their flight.
As the "wedding capital of the world," some people enter the Las Vegas airport in their wedding dresses and go downtown to apply for a marriage license.
The pop-up bureau at the airport conveniently gives engaged couples one less stop in getting their marriage licenses or vow renewal certificates before their marriage ceremony, Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya said, according to Fox News.
There's a good reason to marry on the last day of the year. The date makes up a rare numerical sequence of 1-2-3-1-2-3.
