Thus, the LTFRB reminded on Tuesday to commuters of public utility vehicles. It also served as a stern warning to PUV drivers, not only of taxis, but also of buses, jeepneys, and UV Express.

Posting the same to its official social media account, the LTFRB warning, it said, is its duty to protect the commuting public from unscrupulous drivers or operators taking advantage of the holiday rush.

It reminded every one of the Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 and Memorandum Circular 2011-004 that prohibits PUV drivers from overcharging and short changing their passengers; refusal to convey and contracting passengers; fast, defective and tampered taxi meter.

These violations carries penalties and fines to driver and operator of PUV who be caught violating the JAO and MC it issued.

The first offense would mean P5,000 fine, while the second has P10,000 fine with impoundment of their PUV. With the third offense carrying a stiffer fine and penalty of P15,000 and cancellation of Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC).

The agency also reminded commuters to always take precaution and be on alert against abusive drivers to protect themselves.
