The traditional Filipino dessert taho or soya mixed with syrup and tapioca is still sold by ambulant vendors. Like the neighborhood seller of balut, puto and binatog, the so-called magtataho yells his product to announce his
arrival. A mad scramble for the famous sweet that presently sells for P10 per small cup follows.
Taho vendors still try to be competitive as there are many other street food sellers around trying to catch the attention and cravings of customers. In Baguio City, the magtataho offers strawberry-flavored soya, which quickly became a favorite.
Last year, a Facebook video of Mark Dave Lavrio showing the Daraga, Albay resident putting a tune to his taho call went viral after being featured by the news media. The video was reposted on GMA News' social media and earned 2.5 million views and 71,000 likes.
Lavrio told GMA News that since singing taho, his patrons increased, improving his earnings from P250 to P700 daily.
Other taho vendors get a backup barker to call customers when visiting a local subdivision somewhere in the country. A viral video shows the free service of Harris whenever a taho vendor comes yelling his soya, 24 Oras Weekend reported on its YouTube channel.
According to the dog's owner, the golden retriever got used to his second voice role, howling after hearing the vendor's taho yell
