First Lady Marie Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos commended the National Housing Authority over the weekend for its programs and activities that assist poor families who fell victim to typhoon Odette.
In December 2021, typhoon "Odette" struck Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, affecting over a million families.
In response to the catastrophe, the NHA issued Memorandum Circular 2021-070 to provide additional cash aid in areas heavily affected by calamities.
"Thank you to the National Housing Authority for its continued efforts in ensuring that the families affected by typhoon 'Odette' are given support through the Special Emergency Housing Assistance Program, or Special EHAP," the First Lady said during the recently concluded "Lab for All" outreach caravan in Palawan.
Mrs. Marcos recognized the importance of NHA's mandate in the lives of the marginalized.
"We know [that] without you, these typhoon victims will be homeless. And because of you, they now have a roof over their heads. Maraming-maraming salamat sa inyong lahat (Thank you very much to all of you)," she said.
Bringing gov't to the people
The Special EHAP aims to provide additional financial aid to families affected by severe calamities.
Alongside the Special EHAP distribution, led by NHA general manager Joeben Tai, the Lab for All Caravan was simultaneously held in the province on 5 December.
The First Lady initiated the program to bring government services closer to the people.
The NHA participated in the caravan to inform the public of its services and housing programs.
NHA General Manager Tai and the First Lady drew the winning stubs for five lucky families who received housing units at the event.
