HERMOSA, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed the construction of a P48.99 million flood control structure here.

The project, which spans 266.42 linear meters and stands 3.25 meters tall, was constructed along Sapang Balsik, a tributary of the Almacen River.

"This is the first flood control structure of its kind along this tributary," said Erlindo Flores, Jr., District Engineer of the DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineering Office.

"We are proposing funding to build additional flood mitigation structures to further reinforce the banks of Sapang Balsik," he added.

Flores explained that the project aims to protect villages and nearby rice fields from potential flooding.

It is part of a larger plan to construct river walls along the tributaries of the Almacen River, addressing the issue of frequent overflow during the rainy season and enhancing the safety of residents in low-lying areas.

"This infrastructure development not only promises a safer environment for residents but also sets the stage for enhanced agricultural productivity," Flores added.

The DPWH district office also plans to develop the structures into road dikes to facilitate improved mobility in the area.
