The Bureau of Immigration announced on Wednesday the arrest of a Taiwanese national wanted by authorities in Taipei for engaging in telecommunications fraud.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the arrested fugitive as Shan Yu-Hsuan, a 40-year-old male, who was arrested last Friday, 17 November, along FB Harrison St., Pasay City, by operatives from the BI Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU).

Tansingco said that he issued a mission order for the arrest of Shan due to the request of the Taiwanese government for his deportation so he could face charges for the crime filed against him.

The BI Chief added that he will be deported after the BI Board of Commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. Shan's name will also be included in the BI blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country.

Records from the Bureau showed that Shan is already overstaying his visa. He did not extend his visa, and his last entry date was October 10, 2019.

Tansingco also said that they received information from Taiwan authorities that Shan has a warrant of arrest issued on 25 March 2019 by the Ciaotou district court in Kaoshiung.

According to the Taiwan authorities, Shan was accused of running a call center outfit in Taiwan that engaged in voice phishing to defraud victims who were mostly abroad. The call center's employees allegedly made random calls to victims by posing as sales agents for products sold online.

Shan is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, pending his deportation.
