France vowed support for the modernization of the Philippine Navy, according to French envoy Marie Fontanel, who conveyed this commitment during her recent visit to the country.

Flag Officer In Command, Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., received the French delegation, led by Fontanel, in a courtesy call on Tuesday at the naval base in Roxas Blvd, Manila.

PN spokesperson Capt. Benjo Negranza told reporters on Wednesday that Fontanel and Adaci specifically discussed the Philippine Navy's ongoing acquisition of modernized naval vessels and other maritime equipment.

Negranza said Fontanel and Adaci also raised potential engagements with French firms and companies in the future and further tackled the development of technical competence among sailors and marines.

Both have also explored the increasing cooperation of the Philippines and France in terms of defense.

"VAdm. Adaci thanked the French Ambassador for the generous support and assistance extended by the French government to the Philippine Navy," said Negranza.

He added that Adaci likewise emphasized France's crucial role "in helping the Philippines achieve its defense and security objectives."

"Lastly, he hoped for more future engagements reinforcing the ties between the two nations," Negranza continued.

According to Negranza, Fontanel's courtesy call highlighted the deepening of ties between the Philippines and France, as well as the promotion of shared commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
