Baseco cops rescue 2 kids, mom from hostage taker

Manila Police District – Baseco police rescued a mother and her two children from a drunk security guard who took them hostage on Thursday night along Block 1 Dubai, Baseco Compound, Barangay 649 in Port Area, Manila.

MPD chief P/Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay identified the hostage taker as Justone Acosta y Sagun, 33, male, single, and resident of Sito Tuklas, Barangay Cupang in Muntinlupa City.

The three victims were identified as Jenely Namuag y Abugatal, 31, housewife; Aljur Namuag, 5; and Sofia Namuag, all residents of Block 1 Dubai, Baseco, Port Area.

Based on the report, a drinking session was held at 5:00 p.m. on 2 November at the house of the supervisor of the suspect on the 4th floor of No. 694, Block 1 Dubai, Baseco Compound, with the said suspect and his co-workers. At 8:00 p.m., the hostage taker left the drinking session and was reported to have forcibly entered the room of the victims and held them, hostage, at knife point.

The police, led by P/Lt. Col Emmanuel Sherry Gomez, responded at the scene and negotiated with the suspect to surrender peacefully. But the suspect was said to be defiant; thus, when the police saw an opportunity, they grabbed the suspect's hand and subdued him. The cops were able to rescue the three victims unharmed.

The suspect is currently detained at the MPD – Baseco Police Station and will be charged before the Manila City Prosecutors Office.
