AFP to conduct combined live-fire exercises in Ilocos Norte

The Armed Forces of the Philippines is set to demonstrate a joined combined arms live-fire exercise and urban operations in Ilocos Norte on 15 November aimed at testing the capabilities and maneuver warfare skills of service members in fighting together.

AFP Public Affairs chief, Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the drills will be held at the 4th Marine Brigade headquarters at Camp Cape Bojeador in Burgos Municipality, Ilocos Norte.

The live fire exercise is part of the ongoing AFP Joint Exercises Dagat-Langit-Lupa (AJEX DAGITPA) 07-23 which will run until 17 November.

It will feature high-sniping and close air support using AW109
Rocket and Firing Battery utilizing the ATMOS 155mm Howitzer and 105mm Howitzer.

Among other AFP assets to be utilized during training are the Philippine Army's M119 Howitzer and ATMOS 2000PMC; the Philippine Marine Corps' Soltan M71 Howitzer and M119 Howitzer; as well as the Philippine Air Force A-29B Super Tucano, Agusta Westland 109 and Hermes 900.

Trinidad said such an exercise will underscore the importance of interoperability among our ground, sea, and air assets during combined combat operations.

"Joint exercises seek to develop a high level of readiness and responsiveness among soldiers. It enhances the relationship between the services by enabling troops to work together towards accomplishing a common goal," he added.
