President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged Filipinos to emulate the heroism and love of the country of Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution, on his birth anniversary.
In his speech on the 160th Bonifacio Day, delivered by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thursday, Marcos Jr. said Bonifacio's life and legacy continue to inspire Filipinos today.
"He was an ordinary Filipino who dreamt and displayed extraordinary courage, resilience, and leadership in times of great need," Marcos Jr. said.
Marcos Jr. also praised the heroism of modern Filipinos, including laborers, nurses, doctors, teachers, police, military, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). "They all breathe life and significance into the growth of our nation," he said.
The President called on Filipinos to continue Bonifacio's legacy by participating in activities that will enrich the country's culture, economy, and society. "Each one of us has a significant duty in advancing the Philippines," he said.
Marcos Jr. also urged Filipinos to cherish and safeguard the freedom of their country. "Let us fulfill this responsibility," he said.
"And as a token of gratitude to him and all our heroes, let us cherish and safeguard the freedom of our Motherland today and forever. Long live the memory of Andres Bonifacio! Long live the Filipino nation!" Marcos Jr. concluded.
