Great men of our time (2)
“ Embracing the use of advanced technologies in the Philippines, our leaders have concluded several public-private and private-sector agreements with US companies.

I hope a copy of today's Daily Tribune will reach the doorsteps of the White House in Washington D.C. so that President Joe Biden will be able to read how grateful the Filipinos are for his goodness to their President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in granting him what he asked for the good of his 114 million constituents throughout the Philippine archipelago.
"Gusto namin lahat na ang Pangulo mismo ng America, Joe Biden, ay bumisita sa Pilipinas sa Marso nang taong darating, kasama ang kanyang 'high-level business delegation,' upang maipakita namin ang aming pagmahal at pagpapasalamat sa kanyang pagbigay sa mga hiningi ng aming mahal na Pangulo para sa amin at sa bansa." (We would all like the President of America, Joe Biden, to visit the Philippines in March next year, with his high-level business delegation, so that we could show him our love and gratitude for giving all that our beloved President asked for us and our country).
Let me cite, among many others, why millions of Filipinos are so excited to invite the President of America, Joe Biden, to come and visit.
Embracing the use of advanced technologies in the Philippines, our leaders have concluded several public-private and private-sector agreements with US companies.
The Department of Science and Technology, or DoST, and US firm ATMOS are partnering on an AI-powered weather forecasting system to help the Philippines build resilience to climate change.
Two other US firms, Astranis and Orbits Corp., have joined forces to bring reliable internet connectivity to unserved and underserved areas in the Philippines.
This $400-million partnership will catalyze economic growth and digital transformation in the energy sector. The Philippines is launching a satellite dedicated to the country alone that will increase the coverage of our internet providers. The satellite's name is Agila.
Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation, USNC, and Meralco are undertaking pre-feasibility studies on micro-modular reactors in the energy sector. The energy sector is a cornerstone of the country's industrial growth and development.
In the pharmaceutical sector, Lloyd Laboratories and Difgen Pharmaceuticals have formed a joint venture for product development and the export of pharmaceutical products to the US. The Philippines is emerging as one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical markets in Southeast Asia.
AC Health and Varian have embarked on a groundbreaking partnership in the healthcare sector to improve access to quality cancer care in the Philippines. This reflects the Philippines' growing potential to be a leading healthcare destination in Asia.
President Marcos returned to the Philippines from the US with more or less $670 million in investment pledges that could create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Filipinos.
He looks forward to seeing more of these partnerships materialize, especially with the visit of the high-level US Presidential Trade and Investment Mission in March next year and the Philippines' co-hosting of the 2024 Indo-Pacific Business Forum.
The high-level business delegation that is coming was formed by President Biden himself, something that has never been done for any country before. This is because of the strong partnership between the Philippines and the United States.
Finally, President Marcos said, "Despite the evolving and complex challenges, my message is one of optimism — that together with the US, our oldest and only treaty ally, and our growing network of other partners, we will be able to bring peace, stability, [and] prosperity to the Indo-Pacific Region, as long as our partnerships are based on mutual trust and respect for one another as sovereign equals and our actions are anchored on international law, including UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award."
