Agusan Sur clash kills insurgent

DAVAO CITY — An individual believed to be a member of the New People's Army was reported killed in an encounter with the troops of the 67th Infantry Battalion at Sitio Latay, Barangay Marfil, Rosario, Agusan del Sur on 18 November.

Philippine Army 10th Infantry Division spokesperson Maj. Mark Anthony Tito identified the killed insurgent as alias Jerby or Janjalani, believed to belong to Regional Sentro De Grabibad of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

He added that found in Jerby's possession were one R4 Carbine, one cell phone, and a backpack with personal belongings.

"The 67IB, in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Rosario, already informed the family and took care of the remains of Jerby," Tito said.

In other developments, another member of the NPA killed in an armed encounter with soldiers from the 19th Infantry Battalion in the hinterlands of Barangay Senonogan de Tubang, Silvino Lubos, Northern Samar on Sunday.

The clash happened after a series of armed confrontations that started on 15 November when troops of 19IB engaged the remnants of the Front Committee 1, Sub-Regional Committee Emporium of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee in Barangay Senonogan, Pambujan, Northern Samar.
