Comatose coast guard dies

BAGUIO CITY — The personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) who hails from Tabuk City, Kalinga expires on the evening of 20 November 2023 after days of comatose.

He died at around 8:14 p.m. on the said date.

Mori Caguay went into a coma after participating in Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) training. He lost consciousness during the training on 16 November at Kawit, Cavite.

A video uploaded online revealed a motionless Caguay in the water when his colleagues brought him to the boat and tried to revive him.

The 30-year-old resident of Bulanao, Tabuk City was brought to the hospital. He was intubated and a blood clot was discovered in his brain. He was diagnosed to be "brain dead".

Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson, Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, when interviewed by the media, said 10 personnel were relieved as the case is under investigation.

The family of Caguay demands justice as they claim negligence on the part of the authorities of the Coast Guard resulting in their kin's demise. They said Mori was dedicated to helping his countrymen, especially in times of disaster which is why he joined the PCG.
