The Bureau of Customs – Port of NAIA reported the interception of an incoming express cargo carrying suspected dangerous drugs on Thursday, 9 November, at the DHL Express Gateway Warehouse in NAIA Complex, which were declared as vitamins, supplements, baby wash, and body wash.
Following a 100 percent physical examination by the duty customs examiner, a total of 995 pieces of dark grey tablets and broken ecstasy or methylenedioxymethamphetamine tablets were discovered, with a total estimated street value of P1,691,500.
In coordination with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the shipper and consignee are presently undergoing an investigation and case build-up in anticipation of potential prosecution for potential violations of RA 9165 and RA 10863, commonly referred to as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio stated, "The Bureau of Customs under my watch will remain relentless in our border protection efforts, which include our crusade against all nefarious attempts to smuggle dangerous drugs and all anti-social goods and contraband. This successful interception is a testament to the unwavering border protection efforts of our personnel in coordination with our partner enforcement agencies to prevent the spread of illegal narcotics into the country."
