You win some, you lose some. That's what two people on opposite sides of the world learned recently.
In Manila, Philippines, businesswoman Maricor Flores arrived in the country from abroad last month.
Flores and a companion called for a taxi upon arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on 1 October. When the taxi arrived, they loaded their baggage into the cab.
The businesswoman thought the cab driver had loaded all their luggage in the taxi, and they left. She realized one bag was missing when she and her companion arrived home.
A CCTV camera at the taxi bay of Terminal 3 caught the bag left behind and a person sitting on it before taking it away, GMA News' 24 Oras reported.
Authorities could not immediately identify the thief who took Flores' baggage, which supposedly contained P20 million worth of jewelry and handbags. The thief lucked out with his haul of valuables.
Flores offered a reward of P500,000 to anyone who could help identify the thief.
In Medford, Massachusetts, USA, Khalil Soussa misplaced a lottery ticket he had bought at a convenience store. He forgot all about the Money Maker scratch-off ticket until, by a stroke of luck, his house cleaner found it inside a vase in his home. Unlike the airport baggage thief, the cleaner gave the ticket to Soussa.
Soussa checked the ticket and found he had won $1 million.
The lucky guy said he would use the money to help a friend and donate some to charity, the New York Post reported.
The odds of winning the seven-figure second prize on the $30 scratch-off ticket was 1 in 2,268,000, the state lottery said, according to NYP.
