A warrant of arrest has been issued against Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc.'s high-ranking leaders over alleged violations of human rights, including child trafficking.
In a media interview at the Senate on Tuesday, Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, chairperson of the senate committee, the investigation into the alleged human rights violations and cult practices of the SBSI at the Sitio Kapihan, Socorro in Surigao del Sur is officially terminated with the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Dela Rosa said the court issued non-bailable warrants of arrest to SBSI president Jey Rence Quilario alias Senior Agila and 12 other leaders including Mamerto Digal Galanida, Karren Juanite Sanico, Janeth Tamayo Ajoc, Wenefredo Sarong Buntad, Giovanni Leogin Carduza Lasala, Ibrahim Laugo Adlao, Jovelito Libay Atchecoso, Sergio Angcog Cubillan, Daryl Ruaya Buntad, Jonry Caindoy Ilandag, Yure Gary Quiban Portillo and Florencio Cosmiano Quiban.
Dela Rosa said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources should look into the revocation of the Protected Area Community-Based Resource Management Agreement with the SBSI.
The senator also bared that the Socorro local government unit wishes to bring back members to their original residences should the PCBRMA be officially revoked.
"I hope DENR would hasten the revocation of their PCBRMA," Dela Rosa said.
Welcoming the latest development on the issue, Senator Risa Hontiveros said the decision of the DENR's PACBRMA with the Socorro group would provide lessons and recommendations in the ongoing implementation of the program.
Hontiveros said there's a need to adhere to the calls to action by the Socorro municipal rehabilitation program.
