Malacañang has no plan to declare 31 October 2023 as a non-working holiday after many Filipinos expected the Palace to announce such a date as a special non-working day to create a longer weekend.
"Às per (Office of the Executive Secretary), there is no plan," Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil told Palace reporters in a brief message.
Marcos has officially designated 30 October 2023, Monday, as a special non-working day nationwide to enable citizens to participate in the highly anticipated Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
This will be accompanied by two additional holidays on 1 November (Wednesday) and 2 November (Thursday), which are dedicated to the observance of All Souls' and Saints' Days, respectively.
In 2022, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. proclaimed 31 October as a special non-working holiday.
On the other hand, 31 October 2022 coincidentally fell on a Monday, resulting in an extended weekend.
