LIMA Water transitions to renewable energy, eliminates 100 tons of greenhouse gases

LIMA Water, an Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) water business unit providing water and wastewater services in LIMA Estate in Lipa-Malvar, Batangas, continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability through the successful implementation of a solar panel project at its Sewage Treatment Plant 2 (STP2). Since the project's completion in April, LIMA Water has been generating approximately 400 kWh of clean, green energy daily, which is sufficient to power its STP 2.

The 99.9 kW solar panel installation is projected to significantly reduce LIMA Water's energy costs, with an estimated total power generation of 146 MWh annually. Aside from reducing the facility's energy costs, the shift to renewable energy is expected to eliminate approximately 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting over 3,500 trees, a significant contribution to the fight against climate change.

LIMA Water's solar power initiative exemplifies the broader commitment of Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) to drive sustainability across its various sectors.

He also highlighted that AIC's Apo Agua in Davao is pioneering the water-energy nexus concept in the Philippines. This approach allows Apo Agua to fully operate its Water Treatment Plant solely on renewable energy generated from the natural flow of water from its primary surface water source.

In 2022, LIMA Water integrated all its water systems through the implementation of SMART Water Network Technology. This has led to a significant reduction in the company's operational costs related to repairs and fuel consumption. Additionally, it has enabled LIMA Water to promptly address water-related concerns and ensure consistently high facility uptime, thereby benefiting the more than 150 locators of LIMA Estate.

Currently, LIMA Water is actively considering the possibility of transitioning one of its major facilities to renewable energy sources under the Green Energy Option Program.
