BI agent thumbs down Indian’s bribe offer
The BI said Singh was denied entry after being unable to establish both his capacity to sustain himself for his trip and his purpose of travel.
The Bureau of Immigration has commended an immigration agent for refusing the alleged bribe of an Indian national.
The BI identified the Indian as Jaskaran Singh, a 20-year-old man who was excluded last 12 October at the Clark International Airport after arriving from Singapore.
The BI said Singh was denied entry after being unable to establish both his capacity to sustain himself for his trip and his purpose of travel.
He was excluded based on Section 29(a)5 of the Philippine Immigration Act, and was turned over to the airlines for boarding on the next available flight back to his port of origin.
However, during the exclusion process, Singh handed the phone to BI Border Control and Intelligence Unit officer Jay Manansala to talk to his alleged father.
Officer Manansala turned down the offer of Singh's alleged father of P50,000 in exchange for his release. Singh became belligerent as a result of this action, yelling and screaming at the officer.
Singh then insisted that the officers talk to another unidentified man on the phone, who threatened to sue the officers if they did not release the passenger.
In response to the incident, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco cited the "unwavering dedication and integrity displayed by our immigration agent in the face of a tempting bribe."
"Our officers' commitment to upholding the law and maintaining the integrity of our borders is truly commendable," he added.
Singh's name will be added to the Bureau's blacklist as a result of the exclusion, making it impossible for him to enter the country again.
