More leagues of local governments have expressed their support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to cancel the collection of pass-through fees in their respective areas in a bid to bring down prices of goods and commodities.
The League of Municipalities of the Philippines, the Philippine Councilors League and the Vice Mayor's League of the Philippines recently passed resolutions expressing their commitment to comply with Executive Order 41.
"These resolutions are staunch assurances that we have the support and cooperation of our local government units at the ground in implementing this policy," Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said.
To recall, Marcos issued EO 41 last week to urge LGUs to suspend the collection of any form of fees for all types of vehicles transporting goods under Section 153 and 155 of Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991.
On 5 October, the LMP was the first to act on the order after it passed National Directorate Resolution No. 2023-04 which declares the organization's full support to EO 41.
The group called on its members to diligently implement and enforce the said EO and pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to monitor the execution of the Order.
