Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has warned the public over the spread of fake news regarding robberies in several establishments in the city.
In a statement, the QC mayor stressed that these alleged fake news aim to sow terror in the city.
"We strongly deny the spreading post on social media that several establishments in our city were robbed by armed men and customers were robbed of a large sum of money," Belmonte said.
"These posts are all fake news whose sole purpose is to sow fear in QCitizens and destroy the image of our city," she added.
The mayor added that the Quezon City Police Department is now conducting a thorough investigation regarding the fake news and the people behind it.
"Our police are also investigating the sources of the said post so that those who spread fake and destructive posts can be held accountable to the law," Belmonte said.
"We are calling on QCitizens not to simply believe what they see and read on social media. It is better that we check them carefully and find out from reliable news sources if it is true or not," she added.
