Wet and wild

Wild animals can be as sporty as human athletes.
Formula One racers realized this during practice on the Singapore Grand Prix course on 15 September.
Track officials were waving yellow flags to warn the speeding drivers of a hazard. Large lizards were frolicking on the tarmac, unafraid of the roaring engines and forcing drivers to weave around them.
CNN reported that a video posted to the official F1 channel on YouTube and X showed Dutch world champion Max Verstappen swerving to avoid one of the creatures.
One unlucky reptile was found run over.
If monitor lizards, which are common in Singapore, loiter on F1 tracks, other reptiles are into water sports. One guy hanging out with his pet, however, was fined $2,322 Australian.
"To take an animal out in public or display it requires a separate permit," Queensland's Department of Environment and Science said in a statement Monday, according to Agence France-Presse.
The Gold Coast surfer who paid the fine won't easily forget the rule. Next time, he would think twice before showing off his carpet python coiled around his neck while riding the waves.
