The Bureau of Immigration reported on Sunday that its operatives at the Clark International Airport Terminal 2 in Pampanga intercepted a female passenger believed to be a victim of human trafficking last 18 September 2023.
Authorities identified the victim as alias "Ana," a 37-year-old female who attempted to depart the country bound for Hong Kong while transiting in Taiwan via an Eva Air flight.
The BI officer on duty found several discrepancies during the initial inspection which led him to refer the victim for a second inspection.
According to the agency, Ana claimed that she was merely traveling to Hong Kong for a four-day vacation but was unable to provide the basic details of the said trip and upon further interview, it was revealed that she holds a valid Qatar work visa.
Later, she acknowledged that her recruiter had told her to travel as a tourist and wait in Hong Kong to receive her work visa.
The victim claimed that despite being offered employment as a promotion specialist, she has not yet received her contract. She also revealed that her recruiter had also instructed her to erase any documents that had been sent to her.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that they have forwarded the case to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for investigation and filing of cases against Ana's recruiter.
