The Rotary Club of Makati has commenced its Supplemental and Complementary Feeding Program for Rotary Year 2023-2024.
Launched last Saturday on 16 September 2023, in Cabuyao City, Laguna, this program is a shining beacon of hope for children in need. This year, a P2-million budget for child nutrition has been set, reaffirming RC Makati's serious commitment to service and underscoring its dedication to making a positive and enduring impact on the lives of those served by the Club.
The feeding program targets 30 children, aged six to 12 years old, who are grappling with various degrees of malnutrition. The children belong to families residing in Barangay Niugan, Cabuyao City.
The launch event in Cabuyao was graced by the presence of past president Freddie Borromeo, an unwavering advocate of the Supplemental Feeding Program.
Assuming personal oversight of the launch, he was joined by immediate past president Michael Escaler, who is highly commendable for his steadfast commitment to child nutrition during his presidential term.
At the launch likewise were Rtn. David Nithyananthan, Baby Rotarian Paolo Turno, and prospective member Anton Cabrera, all of whom lent their support to the program.
Also in attendance were key figures from partner organizations that have consistently supported the program, including Vicky Wieneke, president of Kabisig ng Kalahi, a long-standing partner of the Rotary Club of Makati; representatives from Rotary Club of Cabuyao, led by president Leif Opiña, the vice mayor of Cabuyao, and delegates from Rotary Club of Nuvali, led by charter president Renalyn David, who all joined hands to bolster the launching of what is seen as a milestone program by RC Makati.
The day of the launch marked the official start of a comprehensive six-month feeding program, during which time, each child will receive a nutritious hot meal and a glass of milk daily.
These essential meals are not only provided but are also meticulously planned, prepared, and served by the children's own mothers, who play an indispensable role in the program's design.
As part of the feeding program, mothers are encouraged to participate in educational classes covering essential topics such as nutrition, meal planning, sanitation, personal hygiene and overall health. This holistic approach ensures that program benefits extend beyond the immediate provision of meals, empowering families with essential knowledge and skills for healthier living.
RC Makati, in partnership with Kabisig ng Kalahi, has made a profound impact on the lives of over 5,000 undernourished children across various sites since the program's inception in 2004.
