Revised K-10 pilot run slated

The pilot implementation of the revised Kindergarten to Grade 10 curriculum will begin on 25 September in selected schools across the country, the Department of Education announced on Sunday.

Based on the list provided by the agency's office of the undersecretary for curriculum and teaching, at least 35 schools are joining the pilot implementation of the revised K to 10 curriculum otherwise known as "Matatag Curriculum."

Five schools in Metro Manila, particularly in Malabon City will be participating the pilot implementation of the new curriculum — the Muzon Elementary School, Tinajeros National High School, Santiago Syjuco Memorila Integrated Seconday School, Santiago Syjuco Memorial School, and Dampalit Integrated School.

Meantime, five schools each from the Cordillera Administrative Region, Region 1 (Ilocos Region), Region (Cagayan Valley Region), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Region 12 (Soccsksargen) and Caraga will also join the pilot run.

To recall, the DepEd has launched the recalibrated K to 10 curriculum to address learning losses and improve learning outcomes of the learners.

The current curriculum has seven competencies namely Mother Tongue, Filipino, English, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH, and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao but under the new curriculum, there will be five competencies namely Language, Reading and Literacy, Mathematics, Makabansa and GMRC.

The phased implementation of the new curriculum for Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 4, and Grade 7 will begin in school year 2024-2025, followed by Grade 2, Grade 5, and Grade 8 in school year 2025-2026, Grade 3, Grade 6, and Grade 9 in school year 2026-2027, and Grade 10 in school year 2027-2028.
