Navy seizes smuggled sugar

BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi Province — The Naval Forces Western Mindanao patrol craft intercepted a vessel loaded with undocumented imported refined white sugar and assorted goods worth about P7.7 million at the vicinity of Titi Point in Sanga-Sanga town in Tawi-Tawi.
NFWM commander Rear Adm. Donn Anthony L. Miraflor on Friday narrated that the patrol craft of the Naval Task Force 61 intercepted and apprehended the M/L Aizalyn III within the vicinity of Titi Point on Sunday night.
Miraflor said BRP Jose Loor Sr. (PC390) was patrolling its area of operations when they spotted and intercepted the vessel.
Reports disclosed that operatives boarded and inspected the vessel and it was found to be loaded with several sacks of imported white sugar and assorted goods and after inquiring, nobody from the vessels six crew members was able to present any government documents showing the legality of the cargoes that were suspected to come from Sandakan, Malaysia.
BRP Jose Loor Sr. immediately towed the M/L Aizalyn lll to Bongao Port in Tawi-Tawi and turned over to the Bureau of Customs Sub–Port of Bongao by the patrolling Navy boat.

The cargo was received by Sinawe S. Ibrahim, acting Sub-Port of Bongao and witnessed by SA l Bandar J Estino, the sector commander of BOC Sub–Port of Bongao.
Lanza said a joint inventory of the goods was immediately conducted by BOC personnel, a representative from the Philippine Coast Guard Aduana and the Philippine Navy.
Among the cargoes of M/L Aizalyn III were 1,950 sacks of MITR PHOL pure refined imported white sugar worth P5.46 million: 248 boxes of imported noodles worth P372,000: five boxes of damaged Udang noodles worth P7,500: 16 pieces plastic water tank (1,600 liters) worth P120,000: 50 pieces plastic water tank (800 liters) worth P250,000 and the motor launch M/L Aizalyn lll valued at P1.5 million.
