Senate Bill 2243, seeking to revitalize the salt industry in the country, was passed on third and final reading.

Senator Joel Villanueva said the proposed Philippine Salt Industry Development Act would modernize the country's salt production dubbed as a "dying sector."

Coastal communities would be able to produce quality salt once the measure is enacted into law, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said.

The bill mandates the formulation of a salt industry roadmap that would get equipment support like seawater pumps, salt graders, harvesters, dump trucks and machines that add iodine to salt.
