Immigration celebrates 83rd anniversary
The Bureau of Immigration marked its 83rd anniversary last Friday, 8 September with Commissioner Norman spearheading a small celebration to honor the agency's accomplishments and other achievements.
During the rites, Tansingco expressed his appreciation for the bureau's major organizational and systemic accomplishments. Later this month he will also be celebrating his first year in office.
Tansingco said that this could not have been done without the support and efforts of their officers, who tirelessly perform their duties.
He also shared that he understood the plight of BI employees, who continuously face criticism despite their efforts.
Tansingco is the first commissioner chosen from within the ranks. From 2007 to 2017, he held numerous important positions at the BI, including chief of staff, technical assistant of the Office of the Commissioner, and lawyer for the BI Board of Special Inquiry.
The BI chief highlighted accomplishments the previous year, including more than 600 arrests of fugitives, terrorists, and illegal aliens, the exclusion of 2,768 foreign nationals, and the deportation of 1,330 foreign nationals who are not permitted to enter or remain in the country due to undesirable status or other immigration offenses.
