1ST.ONE is back, debuts splashy P-Pop music video

Renowned Philippine Pop boy group 1ST.ONE is back with a music video that may well be the highest-budgeted in local music history — P20 million — for the group’s new song “Problem Child”.

Korean company CHECK helmed the music video for this comeback. The company has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, among them BlackPink, EXO, BTS, and Cha Eunwoo.

According to rapper Jayson of 1ST.ONE, “It was definitely a blast working with them [CHECK]. I’m very thankful because they gave us a unique experience compared to the past music videos that we have done. We are very grateful that they took care of us so well.”

Aside from the impressive production of the song, Problem Child pushes the boundaries when it comes to musicality. Max, the group’s main vocalist, described it as their toughest and heaviest song yet in terms of  both choreography and lyrics.

The track talks about “breaking the norm” and fighting a defective system filled with “inequality, disorder, and machinations.”

“You can think of Robin Hood and Batman as vigilantes, and many more heroes being misdirected as villains by a corrupt system. Nevertheless, they remain as heroes within themselves, still willing to sacrifice continuously even if they are considered the bad ones,” Jayson said.

J, one of 1ST.ONE’s rappers, hopes the group’s comeback via “Problem Child” will spur the P-Pop industry to expand and grow more in terms of concept and storytelling.

Another member, Alpha, aims to collaborate with fellow P-Pop artists such as Alamat, BGYO, BINI, VXON, KAIA, G22, and PHP.

“Initially, of course, we’d love to kick things off with our dream collaborations within the P-Pop industry, and that would be with DIONE and SB19. We go way way way back just with these two groups. We think it’s going to be an explosion,” he said.

The group is grateful for their supporters, called “For.One” (or “Forever One”) for all the love and loyalty, and hope they will embrace “Problem Child”, which the group said is the first time Philippine and South Korean directors have collaborated on a music video, one that fans “haven’t seen before.”

1ST.ONE’s “Problem Child” will drop on 31 January and can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and other music platforms. The music will be available on 1STONE’s official YouTube channel.
