The Tigers and Jaguars took a share of the lead with 2.5 points apiece after four rounds of the 21st Xavier Cup competition at the Tagaytay Midlands in Batangas Monday.
Creamline United, Stallions and Excelroof tied for third with 2 points apiece while H-Boys brought up the rear with 1 point.
The six teams are pitted against each other in a single round-robin, each match featuring nine 9-hole games using the scramble, high-low, and best ball formats.
The Ryder Cup-style event was previously known as the Fr. Johnny Go Golf Cup.
The Tigers, captained by Oliver Gan, opened with a 6-3 win over H-Boys and settled for a 4.5-4.5 draw with the Jaguars in the second round.
After chalking up their second win at the expense of the Stallions, 5-4, the Tigers bowed to Excelroof, 6-3.
The Jaguars lost their opening match with the Stallions, 6-3, but rallied to win their last two games against Excelroof, 6-3, and Creamline, 5.5-3.5.
The tournament, organized by Gan of XS01 in coordination with fellow captains Lawrence Cobankiat, Charlie Tan, Edgar Gatchalian, Jason Barcelon, and Jeremy Cobankiat, resumes on 23 January with the staging of the final round. It is backed by Willie Ocier of Belle Corp.
The Tigers clash with Creamline United, the Jaguars battle H-Boys, and Excelroof takes on Stallions at 6 a.m.
The top four teams with the best win-loss record advance into the knockout-style semifinals that will be played for 18 holes.
Ties are broken by the teams’ game points.
Creamline lost two games but collected the most points with 20 points, a full point better than the Jaguars.
The Tigers have 18.5 points, Excelroof has 18, Stallions 17, and H-Boys 15.5.
