It's ironic that Iranian authorities are getting a severe headache from the death of Mahsa Amini who reportedly died after getting beaten by morality police when she was detained for not properly wearing her hijab.
The young woman's family and some doctors claim she was hit in the head which caused or contributed to her death, according to reports. Of course, government officials denied it and said Amini had a pre-existing medical condition that was to blame for her demise.
The conflicting claims are debatable. But if such head beating happened to some hard-headed Filipinos, it might not have turned into a controversy and sparked social unrest like what is now happening in Iran.
Take the case of Sherwin de la Cruz who got badly injured in the head when he figured in a recent dawn melee in Barangay Tambak, New Washington, Aklan.
A viral video of the rumble shows men punching, chasing and hurling objects at each other. One is hit in the head with a bottle and a stabbed De la Cruz is seen retreating to the side street.
With a knife protruding from his head, De la Cruz was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, he survived after a delicate surgery to remove the knife. His alleged attacker, Joseph Masinda, was arrested together with his three other companions who also allegedly attacked other victims, according to GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas.
In a recently reported domestic violence case in Balayan, Batangas, a 31-year-old woman was shot in the head by her husband at their home in Barangay District 8, GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog reported.
The shooting victim survived and was scheduled for surgery last week to remove the bullet in her head that was fired from a .22 caliber pistol, GRTBST quoted the Balayan Police Station as saying.
The bullet did not go straight through the temple and instead strayed to the forehead area, station chief Police Major Domingo Ballesteros Jr. said, according to GRTBST.
As for the shooter, police found him dead when they went to the house of the victim to arrest him. The husband apparently committed suicide.
