Army ‘gunrunner’ nabbed

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Monday announced that its operatives in Cagayan de Oro along with local police have arrested a Philippine Army corporal engaged in the illegal selling of high-powered firearms.

CIDG director Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee identified the suspect as 33-year-old Cpl. Gilbert Apostol Roja, who was arrested while in the act of selling high-powered weapons to a poseur buyer around 1:15 a.m. in front of Volkswagen CDO, Masterson Avenue, Upper Carmen last Sunday.

Seized from Roja's possession were one modified Troy Carbine M-4 rifle with attached scope; one Rock Island caliber .45 pistol; two fragmentation grenades; one M-16 magazine; three caliber .45 magazines; one hand fragmentation safety case; 411 rounds of assorted ammunition; one brown backpack; one black Racini sling bag; two identification cards; three cellular phones; the marked money inserted in the boodle money; and two eco bags.

The suspect is now under the custody of the CIDG office while criminal complaints for violation of RA 10591 and RA 9516 are being readied for filing before the Prosecutor's Office.
