In Twitter we trust

Too bad for trolls and bots who will now be unmasked, and who are in it only because they are part of a troll army.

Twitter is now exploding with the recent reveal of how former executives of this microblogging platform managed to suppress and censor news materials and stifle subscriber accounts, all to favor one political party in the 2020 US Presidential elections.

Recall that prior to being acquired by the world's wealthiest person, Twitter was already considered as being too liberal and left-leaning, and the Matt Taibbi thread only confirmed the said bias.

It should also be noted how Twitter had the gall to even shut down the account of then-US President Donald Trump, which had about 89 million followers, as well as other rightwing, conservative-leaning media and other content creators.

Clearly, this is suppression, and how ironic that liberals are the purveyors of censorship. Even as we suspected it before, it still is so mind-boggling to have stumbled upon the hard truth of how critical information, news and data were manipulated for political gain.

It is even more shocking to realize how social media has evolved from being a personal space for expression to a tool of tyranny and fascism.

One thing we can bet on is that what happened in the United States is not an isolated case.

It is with certainty that we assert that even here in the Philippines, the local management of Twitter is also in the same mold as those of its US counterpart. They're both biased, and we need not state the obvious of who they've tried to root for.

And now that Elon Musk has put his foot down to end this tyranny, we are expecting a more vibrant and authentic Twitter in play.

Personally, I really am not a fan of blocking or deleting accounts, even those that have contrarian views. Of course, the caveat is that I will not block an authentic account that will bravely engage and fight for his POV without hiding under anonymity.

Because that is really the essence of democracy and freedom of expression and speech.

Too bad for trolls and bots who will now be unmasked, and who are in it only because they are part of a troll army designed for mind conditioning and reputation destruction. Twitter will no longer be your safe haven and refuge.

It will now be the real beacon of truth.

Mark my word.
